Project information
Background
The NSW Government has provided a total of $35 million towards repairing sections of the concrete pavement surface on the Hume Highway at Marulan.
The Marulan bypass, built in 1986 as part of the Hume Highway upgrade, is 7.5 kilometres long and is located about 31 kilometres north of Goulburn.
Due to an increasing number of vehicles using the highway each year, and the age of the road, its condition has deteriorated and ongoing maintenance expenses are increasing.
To improve driving conditions for transport customers the existing concrete pavement will be replaced with a flexible pavement with a thick asphalt surface.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
General
- What is the Marulan bypass pavement repairs project?
The project will focus on repairing sections of the concrete pavement on the Hume Highway at Marulan. - What is the cost of the project?
The NSW Government has provided a total of $35 million. - Where is the project up to?
Transport for NSW sought tenders for the repairs of a section of the Marulan bypass in December 2022. The submitted tenders did not result in a value for money option that Transport could proceed with. Alternative methods to repair the road are being assessed. We have replaced some of the most damaged concrete slabs at various locations along the Hume Highway at Marulan in 2023 and 2024. This work will support future repair methods. We will continue to monitor the condition of the road surface and do necessary repairs until further rehabilitation work can start. - When will construction start?
Transport for NSW is currently assessing alternative methods for completing the repair work. We will update the community with further information about this project when it is available. While alternative methods are being assessed, repair works to replace some of the most damaged slabs will occur.
