Latest news

June 2023 – Girder replacement rescheduled to start on 13 June

Work to replace a timber girder on McFarlane Bridge has been rescheduled to start on Tuesday, 13 June 2023. Work will be carried out Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and Sunday from 8am to 4pm with no work on Saturday.

The bridge will need to be temporarily closed to traffic during construction for the safety of workers and motorists.

Revised closure dates are:

  • Sunday 18 June, closed from 8.00am to 4.00pm
    Closure is expected to be 8 hrs.
    Detours will be in place.
  • Wednesday 21 June, closed from 9.30am to 2.30pm
    Closure is expected to be 5hrs.
    Detours will be in place.
  • Sunday 25 June, closed from 8.00am to 4.00pm
    Closure is expected to be 8hrs.
    Detours will be in place.

Background

Lawrence Road connects the communities of Maclean, Woodford Island and Lawrence as well as being an alternative route to the Pacific Highway between Maclean and Grafton.

McFarlane Bridge was built in 1906 and is a 17 span timber beam bridge with two central steel spans.
