July 2024 - Preferred corridor announced as planning phase concludes for the Moruya bypass

Transport for NSW has identified the preferred corridor for the proposed Moruya bypass, concluding the planning phase of the project.

A refined Orange corridor option has been identified after extensive investigations and consultation. Transport considered community and stakeholder feedback and results from investigations of the three shortlisted corridor options. A refined Orange corridor has been determined as the option that best meets the future needs of the community and the objectives of the Moruya bypass project.

Compared to the other shortlisted options, the refined Orange corridor has fewer impacts to coastal wetlands, properties and the local amenity such as Moruya TAFE and Riverside Park, which Transport heard were key priority areas for the community during consultation.

The Orange corridor will be reserved for future construction, which is estimated to cost in excess of $1.7 billion.

Now that Transport has released its final preferred option report, it can start work on preserving the corridor for when further planning and construction funding is made available.

We understand this decision may lead to future impacts for property owners in the refined Orange corridor and we are working with them to address individual questions or concerns.

Transport thanks the community and stakeholders for their input and will provide updates on further planning and future development of the proposed Moruya bypass when available.

More details about the preferred option, and other shortlisted options can be found in the Preferred Option Report (PDF, 4.27 MB).

Oct 2022 - Consultation Summary Report

Over the last two years more than 1300 submissions were received from the community on a bypass of Moruya. We thank the community for getting involved and having their say.

The community told us they want a bypass that ensures access to the hospital, minimises impacts to flora and fauna, minimises impacts to property, and is cost-effective in delivering the best outcomes for the whole community.

We encourage you to view the full Consultation Summary Report and explore the feedback in detail by using our new interactive dashboard.

Transport for NSW will conduct further design work for all three shortlisted corridors to better understand the opportunities and challenges that all three corridors present.

The further design work will allow us to carry out a robust assessment of all three corridors against what is important to the community, as well as the project's goals and objectives including safety, resilience, liveability, connectivity and sustainability. It is anticipated this process will take six months.
