Princes Highway, Rocky Point Road and Gray Street

Roads and Maritime has completed work on intersection improvements on the Princes Highway, Rocky Point Road and Gray Street in Kogarah.

The NSW Government funded this work as part of its $300 million Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program which aims to improve traffic flow on Sydney’s key southern road corridors.

Roads and Maritime Services has completed improvements at the intersections of Princes Highway, Rocky Point Road and Gray Street, Kogarah. This project has increased the efficiency of the intersections, provided more reliable journey times for motorists and increased safety for all road users.

The completed work includes:

• restricting right turns in both directions into Gray Street from Princes Highway
• changes to the existing medians to allow for three southbound through lanes on Princes Highway
• installing new signage to advise road users of the alternative access into Gray Street
• removing two parking spaces and implementing. a ‘No Stopping’ zone on Gray Avenue to allow for safer turning movements from Rocky Point Road into Gray Avenue
• implementing a ‘No Stopping’ zone between 6.30am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, on Gray Avenue to improve traffic flow
• installing line marking on Gray Avenue to improve traffic flow
• installing four new pram ramps at the Gray Street intersection
• new signage and linemarking.

These intersections were opened to traffic in April and fully completed in May 2018.

These intersection improvements have increased the efficiency of the intersections and reduced traffic delays, providing more reliable journey times for motorists. The new pram ramps will also improve pedestrian safety. These improvements also aim to improve motorist safety by restricting right turns into Gray Street and reducing the number of rear-end and lane change crashes. The completed work will improve traffic flow for the large number of motorists travelling southbound on the Princes Highway between Rocky Point Road and Ocean Street.

Signs have been installed to direct motorists to the new alternative access to St George Hospital via Rocky Point Road (southbound) and Gray Street.

Roads and Maritime invited feedback on the proposal in May and June.2017.  We received feedback from 45 people, with seven people supporting the proposal, four people supporting the proposal with conditions, eight people not stating a preference and 26 people who opposed the proposal.
