Background
The NSW Government funded this upgrade as part of its $225 million Pinch Point Program which aims to reduce delays, manage congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major roads, particularly during weekday peak periods.
Open to traffic
Roads and Maritime Services has opened these intersection improvements to traffic. This project involved upgrading the intersection of Rooty Hill Road North, Jersey Road and Lamb Street with new traffic control signals.

Benefits
The key benefits to the community include:
- up to nine hours of saved travel times annually for motorists traveling Rooty Hill Road thorugh Plumpton and Oakhurst
- improved traffic flow along Rooty Hill Road North, Jersey Road and Lamb Street
- reduced congestion for all road users
- improved road safety for motorists
- increased pedestrian safety with signalised crossings.
What is a 'pinch point'?
Pinch points are traffic congestion points, intersections or short lengths of road at which a traffic bottleneck exists slowing down the broader network. They cause a build up of traffic and travel delays at these spots and on the wider road network.
What did we do?
Completed work included:
- removing the existing roundabout and installing traffic lights and signalised pedestrian crossings on all four corners of the intersection
- providing a dedicated right turn lane from Rooty Hill Road North onto Jersey Road and a dedicated left turn lane from Rooty Hill Road North on to Lamb Street
- providing a dedicated right turn lane from Rooty Hill Road North on to Lamb Street
- providing a dedicated right turn lane from Jersey Road on to Rooty Hill Road North
- widening Rooty Hill Road North near the intersection
- changes to the lane configuration on Lamb Street
- landscaping.

In January 2016 we sought community feedback through a ‘Have Your Say’ inviting stakeholders and the community to comment on the proposed improvements.
In August 2016 a ‘Have Your Say’ community update was distributed inviting stakeholders and the community to comment on a proposed night construction work schedule.
