Wollongong to Coniston Infrastructure Upgrade

Reviewed

Project overview

The program is designed to simplify and modernise the rail network. Passengers will be able to access more services on a simpler and more reliable network through the delivery of better infrastructure, new trains and extra services.

Project scope

We will be working in and next to the rail corridor. We will be:

  • replacing electrical cables and overhead wiring assets at Coniston substation
  • installing new infrastructure in the rail corridor to support extra services
  • modifying electrical assets and combined service routes, including installing new electrical cabling
  • modifying overhead wiring and structures
  • completing civil and structural activities to support corridor upgrades.

Customer benefits

  • more services on the South Coast Line. This means a service every 15 minutes in the peak and every 30 minutes in the off peak between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD
  • as part of future stages of the program, South Coast customers will benefit from an extra 13,000 seats across the busiest times of the week.
