Hume Highway Traffic improvements

Project overview

From Villawood to Strathfield South.

Project information

Background

The Hume Highway is a city connecting corridor linking Western Sydney, Inner West and the CBD.

Traffic congestion is increasing in the section of the highway that runs through the Yagoona town centre, with travel speeds frequently dropping to below 30 km/hr due to parked vehicles on the Hume Highway. This occurs in both east and west bound directions, midweek and on weekends.

Traffic congestion is increasing on the Hume Highway causing delays and frustration for motorists and public transport, increased pollution with the constant stopping and starting of engines, and negatively affecting the economy through lost time.

To ensure we have a transport network that continues to meet the needs of a growing population, Transport for NSW is taking action to help ease congestion and create more reliable journey times on the highway, while balancing the need for maintaining a sense of community.
