NSW Roads Network

Transport manages state roads and regional roads across NSW maintaining and coordinating maintenance and incident response and traffic management 24/7 every day of the year.

Greater Sydney State Road Network

Greater Sydney covers 12,368.2sq km and is made up of nearly 3,000 kilometres of state roads managed by Transport and around 21,000 kilometres of local roads managed by 35 local councils.

In Greater Sydney the 3,000 kms of state roads are made up of 270,000 roads assets including bridges, traffic signals, tunnels, cycleways, drainage systems, noise walls, safety barriers, road signs, warning signs and school safety zone signs.

To enhance the customer experience of using our road network we are spending $674m over the financial years of 2022, 2023 and 2024 on road maintenance in Greater Sydney, plus an estimated $312 million on works remediating road assets after the flooding and severe weather of 2022.

The road network is made up of key integral parts which are managed by teams focusing on their respective special needs.
