Dec 2020 - Completion of work

The wharf has been upgraded as part of the NSW Government's Transport Access Program - an initiative to deliver accessible, modern, safe transport. The improvements to Kissing Point Wharf include increased safety, accessibility and comfort for customers.

F3 Parramatta River ferry services will resume from 6.05am on Wednesday 16 December from Kissing Point Wharf. The temporary extension of the existing 507 bus service between Gladesville and Kissing Point will stop operating. This extension provided connections to the M52 bus service operating between the City and Parramatta during the temporary closure of Kissing Point Wharf. Customers can visit transportnsw.info or call Transport Info on 131 500 for timetable and service information.

Thank you for your patience during construction improvements of the wharf. If you have any questions, please contact the wharf upgrade project team on 1800 770 973 or email WharfUpgradeProgram@transport.nsw.gov.au.

Project information

Background

The upgrade is part of the major progressive upgrade of ferry wharves across Sydney Harbour which aims to improve Sydney’s ferry services for customers, delivering accessible, safe and comfortable public transport infrastructure. New and upgraded wharfs are being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program.

In January and February 2020 the Review of Environmental Factors for the proposed upgrade to Kissing Point Wharf was on display for comment.

We received eight written submissions from the community and two from businesses relating to the proposal, as well as in-person feedback at our community information session.

A submissions report has been prepared which summarises and responds to all of the feedback received. View of download the submissions report (PDF, 456Kb).

The new Kissing Point Wharf

The upgraded wharf will provide customers with an improved public transport experience including:

  • Improved seating and waiting areas
  • Improved safety for customers
  • Improved access for mobility impaired customers and customers with prams
  • Quicker and more efficient ferry boarding and disembarking
  • Improved pedestrian access and movement within the interchange.

The existing gangway and pontoon will be replaced by a new floating pontoon and uncovered gangway connecting to the existing jetty. The existing jetty will be strengthened and refurbished with two new rest areas providing seating.

The pontoon would have a cured roof, seating, glass weather protecting panels and safety and security features such as lightly and closed circuit television. It will be held in place by four steel piles.

Some land surrounding the wharf will be upgraded to improve customer experience and meet accessibility requirements including:

  • Repositioning the waiting shelter to align with a new accessible pedestrian crossing
  • Providing a new kiss and ride space combined with a taxi rank
  • Upgrading the footpath between Waterview Street and the wharf and providing new rest areas
  • Providing two new accessible car parking spaces
  • Providing five new bicycle racks near the wharf entry
  • Installing new wayfinding signage.
