Victoria Road Vision

Reviewed

Project overview

Transport for NSW (Transport) acknowledges the Burramattagal, Wallumedegal and Wangal people as the Traditional Custodians of the land the Victoria Road revitalisation project is situated on and we pay respect to Elders past and present.

Transport for NSW has a long-term vision to revitalise Victoria Road and better connect vibrant town centres through safer and more sustainable travel modes for people of all ages and abilities. This vision is to improve the livability of Victoria Road, to provide better access to different modes of transport, whilst supporting local economies.

With the opening of WestConnex and Sydney Metro West in the future, there is an opportunity to re-imagine the corridor to improve passenger experience, enhance transport infrastructure, improve liveability and celebrate culture and Country.

An integrated approach for the Victoria Road corridor is currently underway across NSW Government to increase homes, support additional job growth and improve education facilities along the corridor. The vision is to rebalance road space to encourage people to change the way they travel using more sustainable travel modes and providing better access to one of Sydney’s most important transport corridors.

In the interim, prioritising public transport within the existing road space is the vital first step towards encouraging people onto public transport and easing congestion on our roads.

Transport for NSW is taking key steps to enhance bus services along Victoria Road for trips to and from the city. These enhancements will improve bus service reliability, reduce journey times for bus users and support the frequent bus service that runs along Victoria Road.

Short term projects

In the short-term Transport will prioritise public transport within the existing road space by continuing to investigate opportunities where gaps in the kerb-side bus lanes can be joined up and services can be increased.

Future vision

Looking forward

To achieve this vision, we will collaborate across government to deliver short to long-term benefits. With a key focus on a unified approach, the vision will become a reality through collaboration across government, with local councils, the community, industry and in partnership with Country.

Proposed key features

  • Rapid bus services, and refinement to local bus networks
  • Prioritising public transport to make it easier for people to catch buses, walk and cycle to key destinations
  • Collaboration across government to improve cycling and pedestrian facilities, with additional greening across the corridor
  • Working in partnership with Country to generate diversity of thinking, better understanding of place and surrounding systems.

Community engagement

We recognise every community has different needs and aspirations, so we are partnering with local government, representatives of Country, industry and community to ensure the revitalisation aligns with local needs and aspirations.
