West Gosford to Narara - Manns Road

Reviewed

Project overview

Transport for NSW is planning a future upgrade of Manns Road between Stockyard Place, West Gosford and Narara Creek Road, Narara to improve traffic flow and safety.

What happens next

State and Federal funding reviews were completed in 2023 and based on the Independent Strategic Review of the Infrastructure Investment Program, only planning funding is available for the priority intersection upgrades and construction funding has been deferred.

The upgrade forms part of ongoing planning and design of the bypass of Gosford along the Pacific Highway and Manns Road corridor. More information on the Gosford Bypass project can be found here.

Project information

Background

Manns Road is part of the north-south Gosford Bypass, a major transport route for local businesses and residents. Manns Road connects the Central Coast Highway to the industrial area of West Gosford and Pacific Highway at Narara.

Transport for NSW is planning for the future upgrade of the 3 kilometre section of road between Stockyard Place, West Gosford and Narara Creek Road, Narara to improve traffic flow and safety. This section links the completed upgrade of Manns Road at the Central Coast Highway and planned upgrade work on Manns Road at Narara. During peak travel times motorists experience congestion and queuing along Manns Road.

The full proposal includes widening the road to provide two lanes in each direction, installing a central median and traffic lights at some locations. The existing bridge over the creek near the intersection of Manns Road and Nells Road is also proposed to be replaced. In recognition of the complexity and size of this proposal, Transport has decided to develop the proposal in stages.

The first stage involves proposed intersection and approach upgrades on Manns Road at Stockyard Place, West Gosford and Manns Road at Narara Creek Road, Narara. The priority intersection upgrades would improve road safety and reduce travel times for vehicles travelling through both intersections.

Benefits

Key benefits of a future upgrade would include:

  • Improved traffic flow and travel times for motorists
  • Improved access to major connecting roads
  • Improved pedestrian and cyclist access
  • Improved safety for all road users.

Features

The full proposal would investigate:

  • Widening the road to provide two lanes in each direction, separated by a central median
  • Replacing the narrow bridge near Nells Road
  • Installing traffic lights where required to improve access to major connecting roads
  • Restricting access to some minor roads
  • Providing pedestrian and cyclist facilities
  • Improvements to drainage.
