Greater Macarthur Transit Corridor (GMTC)
Project overview
Greater Macarthur will develop in the coming decades, and new housing will bring more residents. We are planning so that transport infrastructure will support new development.
The Greater Macarthur Transit Corridor (GMTC) will protect land for a future road, which will provide convenient, safe and reliable transport connections throughout the Greater Macarthur Growth Area.

More about the GMTC
The GMTC originates in the north at Menangle Road, Menangle Park and runs south to Appin. In the future, this will become a road providing a public transport link to ensure that people will be able to move efficiently between West Appin, Gilead, Macarthur and Campbelltown. The project will have a staged delivery, based on housing planning proposals for the area and funding availability.
Key benefits
- Prioritising convenient, safe and reliable public transport, including dedicated rapid bus lanes.
- Less traffic congestion.
- Providing infrastructure for people to walk and ride bikes.
- Strong support from community, landowners, and local government.
What’s happening now
In 2023, the GMTC corridor location from West Appin to Menangle was agreed to by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI), Campbelltown City Council and Wollondilly Shire Council.
State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) mapping is currently being prepared by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) for the Greater Macarthur Growth Area. This will include the GMTC corridor.
Next steps
We will continue to engage with key internal and external stakeholders.
Acquisitions
There is no need for Transport to acquire land until close to the time the transport infrastructure is required. In the meantime, landowners can continue to live on and use their land.
