Latest news
Mar 2021 - Work complete
Transport for NSW completed work at the intersection in early - March 2021. The upgrade involved the construction of new lanes on Parramatta and Shaftesbury roads.
The new lanes have created more capacity for right-turning vehicles, taking them out of the busy eastbound through lanes. The work began in April 2020 and also involved the relocation of substantial underground utilities, including gas, water, electrical and telecommunications infrastructure.
Project information
Background
The upgrade at the intersection of Parramatta Road and Shaftesbury Road, Concord will help reduce congestion and improvement eastbound travel times on Parramatta Road.
The additional right-turn only lane on Parramatta Road will keep more turning vehicles out of the busy through lanes, while the newly constructed departure lane on Shaftesbury Road will allow more vehicles to clear the intersection with each traffic light phase.
Project features
The work involved:
- construction of an additional eastbound right turn lane from Parramatta Road into Shaftesbury Road to increase capacity and stop queuing into the through traffic lanes
- widening the northern side of Parramatta Road and the western side of Shaftesbury Road to accommodate the additional right turn lane
- realigning footpaths, upgrading traffic lights and drainage, relocating services, removing and replacing asphalt, line marking and landscaping.
