Port Kembla Platform Extension

Reviewed

Project overview

The program is designed to simplify and modernise the rail network. Passengers will be able to access more services on a simpler and more reliable network through the delivery of better infrastructure, new trains and extra services.

Project scope

  • extending the eastern end of the platform by around eight metres to hold the longer intercity trains. This will give customers access to all carriages
  • upgrading lighting, CCTV, the PA systems, tactile paving and line marking for platforms
  • realigning and installing new tracks, overhead wiring and signalling for the new trains.

Customer benefits

  • more services on the South Coast Line. This means a service every 15 minutes in the peak and every 30 minutes in the off peak between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD
  • as part of future stages of the program, South Coast customers will benefit from an extra 13,000 seats across the busiest times of the week.

Project status

We completed this work in January 2023.
