What the Get NSW Active program funds
We support councils to plan, design, and build high-impact active transport projects, including:
- walking connections (including new footpaths, widened footpaths, raised crossings, continuous footpath, treatments, kerb extensions, reallocation of road space to walking space, shared zones)
- separated bicycle paths
- quietways
- shared paths.
Funding available
A total of $60 million is available for the FY2026/27 funding round. Of the $60 million funding, $10 million is for Get Kids Active projects that enable walking or riding to school, including $500,000 for the Active Routes to School initiative, with the remaining funding ($50 million) for broader active transport projects.
How to apply for FY2026/27 funding
Simple steps for councils:
- Review Get NSW Active FY2026/27 Grant Guidelines (PDF, 2.07 MB)
- Attend the online information session on 12 November 2025 at 10am (refer to email invitation or contact the Active Transport team).
- Check your project’s eligibility and prepare required documents for the application
- Submit your application via NSW Grants and Funding website.

FY2025/26 program
For last year’s program, there were 333 applications from 113 councils across NSW, and 85 projects were successful in receiving funding. Out of the 85 successful projects, 46 are in regional and outer metropolitan areas, bringing vital improvements to these communities. Meanwhile, 11 projects are set to benefit Western Parkland City communities, and the remaining 28 are within the Eastern Harbour City and Central River City. Of the $60 million funding, $10 million is for projects that enable walking or riding to primary schools, with the remaining funding for broader active transport projects.
