Managing service demand using analytics

During construction of the Macquarie Park Sydney Metro line, Transport for NSW used data to manage increased demand for buses.

Construction of the Macquarie Park Metro line resulted in the temporary closure of the Epping to Chatswood Rail line.

Transport provided replacement buses for affected customers and encouraged people to use alternative travel modes. Demand increased for regular buses, resulting in the need to manage capacity.

Transport located the routes and areas with increased bus demand through bus patronage usage data, on‑time performance data and customer feedback.

Transport used this data to alter the routes and number of services to improve customer satisfaction, experience and on-time running of services.
