Bus changes at Transport
Project overview
Buses are an important part of the public transport system. Over 40% of passengers on the public transport network use buses to connect to other modes, such as rail, metro, light rail and ferries, to get to work, school or recreational activities.
The NSW Government wants to deliver a more equitable bus network to as many passengers as possible, getting you to and from where you want to go.
We continually monitor the network, looking for ways to improve your bus journey and to create a better-connected public transport experience. This includes additional services on key routes, more seats, timetable changes and route changes.

How we plan bus services
What we consider
We use a principles-based approach to service planning to help our decision making and to determine the optimal viable service for daily operations now and into the future.
We consider customer values and customer experience with a focus on direct, easy-to-use services and legible routes.
When we plan our bus services, we consider efficiency, connectivity, frequency, demand and capacity, simplicity and reliability.
From concept to implementation
Service planning consists of four stages:

- Operator feedback
- Network response to major developments
- Transport strategy
- Government policy and commitments
Stage 2: Service development
- Service planning
- Customer analysis
- Timetable analysis
- Contract considerations
- Operator collaboration
Stage 3: Service finalisation
- Implementation planning – services and infrastructure
- Community engagement
- Operator scheduling
