March 2024 - Major work now under way

Major work is now under way on the Jervis Bay Road intersection upgrade. During March and April, work will continue within the project area including:

  • installing safety barriers
  • clearing vegetation
  • carrying out utility, geotechnical and survey investigations
  • removing existing fencing and installing new boundary fencing
  • relocating existing utilities, including water, electrical and telecommunications
  • building a temporary u-turn bay and a local driveway access road from the Princes Highway.

During work, there will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work area is safe. Partial lane/shoulder closures and reduced speed limits of 40 km/h may be in place on the Princes Highway and Jervis Bay Road.

Motorists are advised to drive to conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control andallow an extra five minutes’ travel time during night work.

February 2024 – Major work to begin in the coming weeks

Major work on the Jervis Bay Road intersection upgrade will begin in coming weeks with initial vegetation clearing.

This work follows ongoing work onsite since the start of the year including establishing the site office, surveying for utilities, and preparing for vegetation clearing.

As work gets under way, please follow the direction of all signs and traffic control directions for the safety of all workers and road users in the area.

Work is expected to take up to four years to complete, weather permitting.

Transport for NSW will keep the community informed and provide updates as the project progresses.

October 2023 – Project moves ahead as the major construction contractor is awarded

The contract for major construction work to deliver the $164 million Jervis Bay Road intersection upgrade, as part of the $1.96 billion Princes Highway upgrade program, has been awarded to SRG Global Civil Pty Ltd (SRG).

Transport for NSW will now work with SRG to finalise the construction plans, based on the final approved design for the intersection upgrade.

The upgraded intersection will include two lanes in each direction of the Princes Highway, longer entry and exit lanes, and free-flow traffic access north and south. Bus bays, car parking, a kiss-and-ride facility, bicycle racks, bus shelters and shared path connections will also be built as part of a multi-modal facility that will form part of the upgraded intersection.

As part of preliminary work to be carried out by SRG, a construction impact assessment and traffic management plan will be developed. We are mindful of the potential traffic impacts of major construction on the Princes Highway, Jervis Bay Road and surrounding roads, and will look to minimise these impacts as much as possible. More details about our construction plans will be released to the community in the coming weeks.

We are committed to ensuring access is retained to the Jervis Bay area for the local community and for visitors.

Early major construction work is expected to begin in late 2023 and will include the start of land clearing off the road with major construction commencing in early 2024 and is expected to take around four years to complete, weather permitting.

We thank the community for their ongoing patience as the project has progressed.
