Stanmore Station Upgrade

Reviewed

Project overview

After an accessibly upgrade in late 2023, Stanmore Station will undergo further improvements to make the area safer and more welcoming, as part of the Safter Cities program.

Stanmore Station - Safer Cities program overview

The goal of the program is to make public areas and transport hubs feel safe and secure for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.

Transport has completed some of the Safter Cities improvements that include better lighting, clear signage and public art to create more welcoming public spaces, so people feel safer moving around the Station precinct.

What's changing

  • the Douglas Street Forecourt will have new lighting, more seating, planter boxes, repainted underpass entrance, and upgraded signage
  • the Station underpass will have better lighting, convex mirrors to improve visibility, extended artwork near the lifts and new paint
  • additional CCTV cameras will be installed to improve safety

How the community helped

In December 2022, a night walk with women, girls and gender-diverse individuals was held to help inform the concept design of the Safer Cities upgrade for Stanmore Station.

Transport Access Program accessibility upgrade

The NSW Government completed the accessibility upgrade at Stanmore Station in 2023.

The upgrade was delivered as part of the Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport passengers by delivering accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure across the state.

Key benefits

  • two lifts providing access to all platforms
  • family and accessible toilets on Platforms 1 and 2
  • accessible ramp from the station to Trafalgar Street
  • the underpass, entrance and concourse on Douglas Street have been regraded for easier access
  • kiss and ride bay and new accessible parking space on Douglas Street
  • safety upgrades, include new handrails, stair treads and tactile pads on station platforms.

Finishing work as part of the TAP upgrade due to be completed later this year, includes artwork on Douglas Street. Transport will also install additional safety bollards at the Douglas Street entry to the underpass.
