Wolli Creek and T8 Airport Line Power Supply Upgrade

Reviewed

Project overview

The program is designed to simplify and modernise the rail network. Passengers will be able to access more services on a simpler and more reliable network through the delivery of better infrastructure, new trains and extra services.

Project scope

  • extending the canopy on platforms 3 and 4 at Wolli Creek Station. This will increase weather protection and help customers use the whole platform, reducing crowding at busy times
  • upgrading signalling and overhead wiring
  • installing and modifying power supply cables throughout the T8 Line Airport tunnel from the Chalmers Street substation to Green Square, Mascot and Wolli Creek stations
  • installing a new power supply cable between Chalmers Street substation and the Rail Operations Centre at Green Square. This will upgrade the power supply from the T8 Airport Line tunnel from Central to Wolli Creek, allowing for future rail services
  • building a new substation at Wolli Creek Junction. This will provide power supply for future rail services and allow us to decommission redundant services at Undercliffe Substation and Wolli Creek signalling hut.

Customer benefits

  • more services for the T8 Airport Line. This includes an 80 per cent increase at Airport stations
  • space for 4,800 more customers on the T8 Airport & South Line during the peak hour.
