Road Safety Plan 2021

Published
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian today announced the release of the Road Safety Plan 2021 – a roadmap for saving lives and reducing serious injuries on NSW roads.

Last year 392 people lost their lives on NSW roads, 12 more than in 2016, which was the highest road toll in five years.

The Road Safety Plan 2021 outlines how we will work towards the State Priority Target of reducing fatalities by 30 per cent by 2021.

The plan brings together everything we know that is proven to prevent and reduce the impact of crashes and reflects the internationally recognised Safe System approach to improving road safety.

Under the Road Safety Plan 2021, there are six priority areas for action:

  • Saving lives on country roads
  • Liveable and safe urban communities
  • Using the roads safely
  • Building a safer community culture
  • New and proven vehicle technology
  • Building a safe future.

The plan was informed by an extensive consultation process with the community, road safety experts, government agencies and other organisations, and has been developed based on evidence and expert advice from across Australia and countries with the safest roads in the world.
