Mar 2020 - Update on community information sessions
The global response to the COVID-19 virus is changing the way we interact with each other in a way that is unprecedented. Community concerns around physical interactions and the need for social distancing mean we need to reconsider the way we engage with our local communities and stakeholders.
To ensure the health and safety of the community and our staff we will be holding an online forum to answer your questions and seek your input into this important project rather than proceed with face-to-face meetings.
As such the two community information sessions planned for Wednesday 25 March and Saturday 28March will no longer go ahead.
Community members and stakeholders are instead invited to join a Facebook online session on the NSW Roads Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NSWRoads on:
- Wednesday 1 April between 4pm and 5pm
During the session you can find out more about the proposed upgrade from the relevant team members and ask questions about the draft strategic design.
If you are not able to join the Facebook online session there are many other ways to have your questions answered by the team, provide your feedback and get the information you need. You can:
- Phone: 1800 865 303
- Email: elizabethdrive@rms.nsw.gov.au
- Write: Elizabeth Drive upgrade, Transport for NSW, PO Box 973, Parramatta NSW 2124
Also, to make sure you have plenty of time to have your say on this important upgrade, Transport for NSW has extended the consultation period and will be accepting feedback until Friday 24 April.
We thank the community and stakeholders for their patience and understanding at this time and look forward to hearing from you.
Project information
Background
Elizabeth Drive is the main east-west corridor between Liverpool and surrounding suburbs. Elizabeth Drive, from the M7 Motorway to Badgerys Creek, is approximately 14 kilometres in length and predominantly a two lane undivided road, with no footpaths, no median and a speed limit of 80km/h.
Future projected and planned growth in the region is expected with the development of the Western Sydney International Airport. This will see an expansion of industrial and commercial precincts associated with the development of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and related planned land releases for residential precincts and employment zones in the area leading to a need for increased capacity on Elizabeth Drive.
Transport for NSW is committed to supporting the delivery of the Western Sydney International Airport and the Western Parkland City. Our planning for the upgrade of Elizabeth Drive will support the projected and planned development in the region.
We also recognise the need for the provision of pedestrian, cycling and bus stop infrastructure along Elizabeth Drive as there is currently minimal infrastructure for supporting these customer groups.
Next steps
We will be preparing the concept road design and performing an environmental assessment in the next stage of the project.

Community consultation report
Last year we invited the community to meet our project team to ask questions and give their feedback on the proposed access strategy.
The feedback included:
- ideas to improve safety at the Devonshire Road and Western Road intersections with Elizabeth Drive
- provision for north-south road connections from Elizabeth Drive to the M12 Motorway and the Western Sydney International Airport
- requests for traffic lights at Cecil Road, Lawson Road and Clifton Road intersections.
We have considered your feedback from the consultation period and examined the issues you raised. We have responded to your feedback in our Community consultation report (PDF, 1.7Mb)
