Mortdale Maintenance Centre Upgrade

Reviewed

Project overview

The program is designed to simplify and modernise the rail network. Passengers will be able to access more services on a simpler and more reliable network through the delivery of better infrastructure, new trains and extra services.

Project scope

  • construction of a new bogie exchange system which will enable train wheels to be automatically removed from carriages and transported for maintenance
  • extending the driveway entrance and building a new driveway exit on the western side of the centre for improved safety during centre deliveries
  • installing a new electrical substation to support an increased electrical capacity
  • upgrading the sheds for more efficient maintenance work
  • completing civil work, e.g. track modifications, drainage upgrades, new retaining walls, electrical works and lighting.

Project status

We completed construction of the bogie exchange system in March 2023.

Remaining work will be undertaken to complete an access road upgrade off Oatley Avenue, east of the maintenance centre.
