Waterfall Stabling Yard and Platform Extension

Reviewed

Project overview

The program is designed to simplify and modernise the rail network. Passengers will be able to access more services on a simpler and more reliable network through the delivery of better infrastructure, new trains and extra services.

Project scope

  • installing a new retaining wall along the boundary. This will widen the rail corridor and provide more tracks
  • extending the northern end of the island platform by about 40 metres. This will hold the longer intercity trains and give customers access to all carriages
  • rearranging tracks on the western side of the rail corridor. This will create a new train stabling yard to hold extra trains and introduce a freight loop
  • realigning and installing new overhead wiring and signalling equipment for the new trains
  • installing a staff amenities block and connecting a footbridge to improve train cleaning and maintenance
  • upgrading lighting, CCTV, PA systems, tactile paving and line markings to improve safety.

Customer benefits

  • a 30 per cent increase in peak services on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line. This includes extra services from Cronulla, Waterfall and Hurstville
  • space for 6,000 more customers on the T4 Line during the peak hour.
