Project overview

Under the Transport Access Program, Transport for NSW has completed statewide accessibility upgrades and constructed new commuter car parks.

Transport for NSW has completed accessibility upgrades and constructed new commuter car parks across the state, under the Transport Access Program.

Albion Park: Transport Interchange Upgrade 

Commenced November 2012
Completed April 2013

Improvements included:

  • Redesigning and regrading of the ramp on the western side of the station to make it wheelchair compliant
  • Improving pedestrian access to the western side bus stop on the Princes Highway
  • Providing a more user friendly bicycle parking facility
  • Providing a formalised ‘kiss and ride’ area for passenger pick up and drop off.

Allawah: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Commenced April 2010
Completed October 2011

 Improvements included:

  • Changes to bus stops, footpaths and ramps
  • A new 'kiss and ride' pedestrian drop-off zone
  • Bicycle racks, shelters and fencing
  • Guides for the visually impaired and signage on both sides of the station to improve accessibility.

Arncliffe: Pedestrian Link

Improvements included:

  • Improving lighting for customer safety and comfort at the bus stops and taxi zones
  • Improving pedestrian access to the long stay commuter car park located on the eastern side of Arncliffe Railway Station
  • Maintaining the pavement to the long stay commuter car park located on the eastern side of Arncliffe Railway Station
  • Providing signage to formalise the ‘kiss and ride’ facility on Firth Street.

Arncliffe: Station Upgrade

Commenced April 2015

Improvements included:

  • Four new lifts
  • New canopies on the footbridge and platforms, upgraded CCTV surveillance cameras and announcement systems
  • New sheltered bus stops, taxi rank and kiss and ride area along Firth Street and  new family accessible toilets at the platform level
  • Two new accessible parking spaces within the existing car park off Burrows Street, upgraded stairs and wayfinding signage, and new bicycle racks.

Artarmon: Station Access Upgrade 

Commenced February 2015

Improvements included:

  • Two new lifts
  • A new pedestrian bridge to improve access from Hampden Road
  • A new accessible parking space on Hampden Road.

Ashfield: Commuter Car Park

Commenced May 2017
Completed March 2018

Construction is now complete to improve commuter parking by providing around 95 additional spaces on Brown Street. The car park features lifts, new lighting and CCTV cameras, wayfinding signage and bicycle storage facilities.

Asquith: New Commuter Car Park, Footpath and Lighting

Improvements included:

  • 42 parking spaces on Jersey Street North
  • 2 accessible parking spaces close to the station (within the Haldane Street Car Park)
  • A new walkway between the car park and the station plus new lights and CCTV cameras

Auburn: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • Upgrading the Northumberland Road ‘kiss and ride’ facility to incorporate seating and signage
  • Removing the existing stairs that lead to the ramp at the Railway Station entrance and exit at South Parade
  • A new weather wall at the South Parade bus stop.

Austinmer: Station Access Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • Redesigning and rebuilding the ramp to platform 2.

Balmain East: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A new accessible ramp and stairs
  • Widened turning circle for better bus circulation
  • Improved bus shelter, new landscaping and seating
  • Provision of CCTV cameras.

Bankstown: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • New stairs and ramps to improve circulation at the northern and southern station entrances
  • Relocation and installation of ticket barriers
  • Installation of a covered walkway to the bus interchange
  • Widening staircase access to platform, and installation of bicycle parking facilities.

Baulkham Hills: New Commuter Car Park and Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A new commuter car park on the corner of Windsor Road and Torrs Street, Baulkham Hills providing 183 car spaces and a 30 space bicycle rack.
  • New bus shelters on Windsor Road and Old Northern Road

  • Kiss and ride facilities on Railway Street and new pram ramps on Olive Street.

Berala: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A new lift, a new canopy with two new train information display screens, and a family accessible toilet
  • Undercover bicycle racks
  • Improved interchange areas, including kiss and ride zones, upgraded station entry forecourt and two accessible parking spaces on Campbell Street
  • Upgrades to lighting and CCTV surveillance, and improved wayfinding signage.

Berowra: New Commuter Car Park

Commenced March 2010

Improvements included:

  • A new commuter car park providing 130 spaces and accessible parking which is free and available 24 hours, seven days per week.
  • Security lighting and CCTV surveillance. 

Blacktown: New Commuter Car Park

Commenced May 2010

The project included:

  • A multi-storey commuter car park along First Avenue, providing 489 new commuter car park spaces, 15 accessible spaces, eight motorcycle spaces and 40 spaces for securing bicycles. The car park also includes lifts, security lighting and CCTV surveillance. Parking is free and available 24 hours, seven days a week.
  • The final stage of the Blacktown Commuter Car Park project was completed in May 2012 and involved the creation of a dedicated right hand turn lane at the intersection of Third Avenue eastbound and Prince Street. The new right hand turn lane allows for increased vehicle traffic entering the car park.

Blacktown Station Upgrade

Opened January 2018

The project included a new footbridge connecting the Richmond Line concourse with the main concourse area, lifts and stairs connecting Platform 3 with the new footbridge, stairs and weather protection canopies to Platforms 1 and 2, and changes to station facilities to improve customer flow.

Blaxland: New Station Canopy

Completed 2014

  • New steel canopies were installed on the station platform to provide better protection for customers against rain and sun exposure.

Broadmeadow Station Upgrade

Completed June 2017

Improvements have been made to provide easier access to public transport, including new lifts, canopies, wayfinding signage, lighting and CCTV camera surveillance.

Campbelltown: Commuter Car Park Extension

  • The Campbelltown Commuter Car Park project involved an extension of the existing car park on Farrow Road to create an additional 380 new car park spaces.

Campsie: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Commenced February 2013

Improvements included:

  • Seating at the eastbound bus stops on South Parade
  • Improving bus stops on South Parade for customer safety and comfort
  • Improving footpath pavements on route to and at the three on-street commuter car parks, and installing clear and direct way-finding signage
  • Installing disabled car parking spaces on North Parade, including lighting upgrades.

Canley Vale: Station Access Upgrade and New Commuter Car Park

  • New accessible ramps on both sides of the station and new stairs and bike racks on both sides of the station
  • Additional CCTV surveillance cameras and lighting, new tactiles on the platform, new handrails and signage.

Commuter Car Park

  • The multi-storey car park, constructed on Fornasier Lane, Canley Vale, provides a total of 122 commuter parking spaces, lift and stair access, accessible parking spaces, lighting and CCTV cameras.
  • The car park also features 59 timed parking spaces for shoppers. Commuter parking is free and available 24 hours, seven days per week.

Cardiff: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • New lifts with three stops linking Council’s Mary Street car park with the station car park and the pedestrian footbridge
  • A re-graded ramp and footpath access from the footbridge to Main Road
  • A new main station building with accessible paths, weather protection enclosures, upgraded ticket office and a wheelchair and family accessible toilet, and extension of the platform to fit eight-car trains on the platform
  • New and upgraded CCTV surveillance and lighting

Caringbah: New Station Canopy

  • New steel canopies were installed on the station platform to provide better protection for customers against rain and sun exposure.

Clarendon: Station Access Upgrade

  • Improvements to accessibility at Clarendon Station included the construction of a new accessible ramp and new stairs, and improved safety through the installation of additional CCTV surveillance cameras and lighting.

Como: New Station Canopy

Croydon Station Upgrade

Dapto: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • Redesigning and rebuilding the ramp on the eastern side of the station to make it wheelchair accessible
  • New signage and more bus route and timetable information
  • New seating in the taxi and bus zones and a safer bus access road
  • Improving lighting in and around the station, bus interchange and taxi zone, and upgrading footpaths around the station.

Dungog: Station Upgrade

Commenced July 2013
Completed November 2013

  • The improvements to Dungog Station included the construction of a new ramp, new pedestrian walkway and an upgrade of the existing ramp leading to the platform.

Emu Plains: New Commuter Car Park

Commenced March 2010
Completed February 2011

  • The Emu Plains Commuter Car Park was constructed on the northern side of Emu Plains Station with an entry from Lee Street. The car park provides approximately 275 spaces and includes accessible parking spaces, security lighting and CCTV surveillance.

Engadine: New Commuter Car Park, Footpath and Lighting 

Commenced January 2017

Improvements included:

  • A new commuter car park  along the Princes Highway (southbound) and upgrading two accessible parking spaces within the existing car park near the station
  • Stormwater works, footpath works and fencing works
  • New and improved lighting.

Epping: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Completed July 2013

Improvements included:

  • Upgrading the footpath on the western side of Beecroft Road (north of Epping Hotel) and upgrading road, pavement, kerb and guttering
  • Installing a new bench seat at the existing bus stop on the western side of Beecroft Road.

Fairfield: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Commenced February 2013

Improvements included:

  • Reconfiguring the bus interchange into the commuter car park previously at the intersection of The Crescent and Court Road
  • Formalising the kiss and ride zone on the westbound lane of The Crescent
  • Relocating the taxi rank to the eastbound lane at the western end of The Crescent
  • Relocating the signalised pedestrian crossing and creating a new zebra pedestrian crossing on The Crescent
  • Improving the streetscape on The Crescent and throughout the bus interchange, including new paving, street furniture, landscaping and wayfinding signage
  • Extending the station forecourt to incorporate the historic crane previously located in the bus interchange
  • Upgrading CCTV camera surveillance.

Flemington Station Upgrade

Opened March 2017

Improvements have been made to provide easier access to public transport, including new lift access, ‘kiss and ride’ zone and footbridge.

Gerringong: Station Upgrade

Commenced late 2012

  • The improvements to Gerringong Station included regrading and widening the existing external ramp which provides access to the platform, and provision of a new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant car parking space.

Glenbrook: Commuter Car Park and Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • New commuter car park providing 56 extra car parking spaces and two accessible parking spaces close to the station entrance
  • A safer pedestrian crossing and traffic island, improved footpaths, wayfinding signage and security fencing
  • Safety improvements to the station entrance including the installation of a new balustrade and non-slip paint to the ramp
  • Improved lighting between the station entrance and the new car park.

Glenfield: New Commuter Car Parks

Multi-storey Commuter Car Park

Commenced October 2009
Completed September 2010

  • The multi-storey commuter car park is located north-east of the station with entry off Roy Watts Road. The car park provides approximately 700 spaces and includes accessible parking, lift access to all levels, CCTV surveillance and security lighting. Parking is free and available 24 hours, seven days a week. This car park was delivered as part of the South West Rail Link.

Seddon Park Commuter Car Park

Commenced May 2009
Completed October 2009

  • The car park at Seddon Park was extended to provide 117 new parking spaces for commuters using Glenfield Station. The commuter car park includes accessible parking and security lighting with the entrance off Salisbury Avenue, Glenfield.

Gordon: New Commuter Car Parks and Interchange

Completed June 2015

  • Over 130 commuter parking spaces were provided at the upgraded Werona Avenue Commuter Car Park in April 2014
  • A new commuter car park and interchange on the western side of Gordon Station, off Henry Street, provides 214 commuter parking spaces (an increase of 135), including five accessible parking spaces. The car park and interchange also includes bicycle racks, motorcycle parking, bus stops, taxi zone, weather protected waiting areas, lighting and CCTV cameras.

Gosford: New Commuter Car Parks

  • Two new commuter car parks were constructed on Mann Street, Gosford, to provide 86 additional commuter parking spaces in close proximity to Gosford Station.

Granville: New Commuter Car Parksand Transport Interchange Upgrade

Completed January 2015

  • A new commuter car park on the corner of Rowell and Cowper streets was constructed to provide 20 additional commuter parking spaces in close proximity to Granville Station.
  • As part of this project, the Granville bus interchange was upgraded and a new commuter car park on Mary Street which provided 40 additional commuter parking spaces. New public toilets, lighting, CCTV, footpaths and landscaping were also provided.

Greta: Station Upgrade

Completed March 2013

  • The improvements to Greta Station included redesigning and rebuilding the existing ramps on both sides of the station and the entrances to improve customer access.

Harris Park Station Upgrade

Completed July 2018

  • Improvements include lifts, family accessible toilets, lighting and new CCTV to boost access and security.

Hamilton: Station Upgrade

Completed March 2013

  • The improvement to Hamilton Station included redesigning and rebuilding the existing ramp from the platform to the station entrance, off Beaumont Street.

Heathcote: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A ‘kiss and ride’ zone and new bike facilities
  • New lift, stairs and forecourt at Wilsons Parade
  • Better access for pedestrians – a footbridge, new footpaths and a crossing
  • Improvements to commuter car parks.

Helensburgh: Commuter Car Park

  • The commuter car park provides 70 new parking spaces on the southern side of the station and includes security lighting and CCTV surveillance. Additional accessible parking spaces were provided in the existing car park, closer to the station.

Holsworthy: Commuter Car Park Extension and New Commuter Car Park

  • Transport for NSW has extended the car park at Holsworthy Station to provide 462 additional commuter spaces and 18 new motorcycle spaces
  • The project included construction of additional parking levels on both of the existing multi-storey car parks, a new lift, extension of an existing lift, and the installation of new lighting and CCTV security cameras to improve commuter safety.

Multi-deck Car Park 

Commenced March 2009

  • The new multi-deck car park constructed over the existing car park at Holsworthy provides 350 new parking spaces for commuters in South West Sydney.

Homebush Station Upgrade

Opened March 2018

Improvements include three new lifts, weather protection canopies, bicycle parking facilities, wayfinding signage, family accessible toilet and accessible parking spaces, kiss and ride, new bus shelter, improved lighting and CCTV.

Huntleys Point: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Commenced September 2015
Completed June 2016

Improvements included:

  • A new lift providing access to the wharf and a new accessible pathway from Huntleys Point Road to the new lift
  • Relocation of two accessible parking spaces to provide a direct link to the new pathway and lift
  • Upgrade of the turning circle on Huntleys Point Road and a new accessible drop-off and pick-up area
  • Lighting and CCTV
  • Replacement of existing canopies from the waiting area to the new lift and the installation of new canopies along the stairs adjacent to the new lift.

Ingleburn: Station Upgrade

Completed September 2015

Improvements included:

  • Three new lifts and covered walkways from the lifts to the platforms
  • Reconfigured station entries and new customer amenities
  • Improvements to the bus stop and canopy, taxi zone, lighting, new bicycle storage and accessible parking, and formalised kiss and ride facilities.

Jannali: Station Upgrade

  • Improvements to Jannali Station included redesigning and rebuilding the current ramp on the western side of the station and upgrading the footpath on the eastern side of the station.

Katoomba: New Commuter Car Park

  • Constructed north east of the station at the corner of the Great Western Highway and Goldsmith Place, the car park provides 85 new parking spaces, security lighting and CCTV surveillance. In addition, three new accessible parking spaces have been provided on the southern side of the station.

Kiama: New Commuter Car Park

  • The Kiama commuter car park was constructed on Bong Bong Road, behind Kiama Mowers, approximately 100 metres from Kiama Station. The car park provides 40 spaces including an accessible parking space, security lighting and CCTV surveillance. Parking is free and available 24 hours, seven days per week.

Killara: New Commuter Car Park

Completed May 2015

  • More than 80 new commuter car parking spaces, accessible parking spaces, and a new accessible pedestrian ramp 
  • Improved lighting
  • Line marking, bollards and wheel stops, and minor landscaping improvements including a widened driveway entry.

Kingswood: Transport Interchange Upgrade and NewCommuter Car Park

Improvements included:

  • New passenger drop off and pick up points, including 'kiss and ride' and taxi zones, and sheltered bicycle facilitieson the northern side
  • Sheltered bicycle facilities, a shelter for taxi and 'kiss and ride' users on the northern side of the station and upgraded bus stops with tactiles and signage on Park Avenue for improved accessibility. In addition, the upgrade included a new footpath on the northern side of the station; a new pedestrian median safety fence on the Great Western Highway and new signage on the southern side of the station.

Commuter Car Park

Completed April 2012

Improvements included:

  • Approximately 23 additional spaces, a new entrance, improved traffic flow, CCTV surveillance, lighting and a covered footpath to the station
  • A new 'kiss and ride' and taxi zone was also constructed on the southern side to make passenger drop off in the new car park  easier
  • Lighting was added in the existing commuter car park on the northern side to improve safety
  • Parking is free and available 24 hours, seven days per week.

Kogarah: Transport Interchange Upgrade

  • The station forecourt was redesigned and facilities upgraded on surrounding roads, including changes to bus stops, 'kiss and ride' facilities, taxi zones, a pedestrian crossing and bicycle facilities.

Leura Station Upgrade

Completed February 2018

Improvements have been made to provide easier access to public transport.

Facilities include a new lift, staircase replacement, upgraded toilet facilities, a ‘kiss and ride’ zone, formalised taxi rank, improved lighting and CCTV.

Lithgow: New Station Canopy

Commuter Car Park

Completed November 2011

  • The upgraded commuter car park provides an additional 290 commuter parking spaces on the western side of the Tailby Street car park and a further 160 spaces on the eastern side of the Tailby Street car park. Parking is free and available 24 hours, seven days per week.

Pedestrian Crossing

  • A signalised crossing on Menangle Road was constructed between Tailby Street and Geary Street to improve the connectivity between the commuter car park and the station.

Marayong: NewCommuter Car Park, Footpaths and Lighting

Marrickville: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • Two new lifts, a new staircase and a new concourse.

  • A new family accessible toilet.

Martin Place: Station Upgrade

  • The Martin Place Easy Access Upgrade included a lift from Martin Place street level to the station concourse.

Marulan: Station Upgrade

  • An accessible ramp and footpath from Platform 1 to the existing pedestrian level crossing
  • An accessible ramp and footpath leading to Platform 2

Milsons Point: Wharf Interchange Upgrade

  • Improvements included a 'kiss and ride' upgrade, footpath regrading and a new bus shelter.

Miranda: New Station Canopy

Mittagong: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A new accessible ramp to Platform 1, new footpath and kerb ramp, formalised ‘kiss and ride’ and bus stop zones
  • Improvements to the existing accessible parking space
  • New balustrade, fencing and hand rail to match existing building architecture
  • A new bike rack for eight bikes, improved safety features including tactile surfacing, lighting and CCTV surveillance cameras.

Moss Vale: New Commuter Car Park

The car park provides:

  • 56 spaces and includes security lighting and CCTV surveillance
  • Two additional accessible parking spaces were also provided near the station entrance as part of this project
  • Upgraded bicycle racks, improved lighting on Dalys Way and a new pedestrian crossing to the car park on Dalys Way.

Mount Druitt: New Commuter Car Park

  • The multi storey commuter car park is located north-east of Mount Druitt Station on the corner of North Parade and Mount Street, providing commuters with approximately 220 additional car park spaces.

Mulgrave: Station Upgrade

  • Improvements to accessibility at Mulgrave Station included the construction of a new accessible ramp, and improved safety through the installation of additional CCTV surveillance cameras and lighting.

Museum: Station Upgrade

Commenced May 2015
Completed November 2016

Improvements included:

  • A new lift connecting the entry of the station on the corner of Elizabeth and Liverpool streets and the underground station concourse.
  • Two new lifts connecting the station concourse with the platforms.
  • An accessible ramp at the station entrance.
  • A new family accessible toilet.
  • Refurbishment of the toilets within the concourse.

Narwee: Transport Interchange Upgrade

  • The project delivered upgrades to bus stops, a 'kiss and ride' zone and taxi zone with shelters on Penshurst Road South, new bicycle facilities and improvements to footpaths through the subway and on both sides of the station.

Narwee Station Upgrade

Improvements have been made to provide easier access to public transport.

Facilities now include a family accessible toilet, lift access, improved customer information and wayfinding, stairs and upgrades to lighting and CCTV.

Newtown: Station Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A centrally located concourse, new covered walkways
  • Anew lift, upgraded toilet and retail premises
  • New platform canopies and improved CCTV, lighting, signage, tactile tiles and bike racks.

Normanhurst: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • Upgraded road pavement and kerb and gutter at bus stops on Denman Parade, and upgraded footpaths
  • New bike racks
  • New blisters at the existing pedestrian crossing on Denman Parade to improve pedestrian safety.

North Strathfield: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • A new shelter over a pedestrian walkway
  • New and formalised 'kiss and ride' zones, bicycle racks
  • A new pedestrian access ramp, upgrade of bicycle facilities and upgrade of footpaths.

Oak Flats: New Commuter Car Park

  • The Oak Flats commuter car park project involved the construction of an additional 230 parking spaces, new lighting, landscaping and fencing.

Oatley: Station Upgrade, New Footbridge and New Commuter Car Park

Improvements included:

  • New lift and stair access to Oatley Parade, Mulga Road and the station platforms and new station forecourts on both Oatley Parade and Mulga Road with landscaping to suit the current features
  • A new pedestrian footbridge providing access from the new Oatley Parade and Mulga Road forecourts
  • Installation of  an accessible toilet on the station platform

  • Bicycle racks, shelters, fencing, guides for the visually impaired and signage to improve accessibility.

Panania Station Upgrade

Improvements are underway to provide easier access to public transport.

Facilities being constructed include lifts, ramps, bicycle facilities, a new family accessible toilet, improved customer information and wayfinding, new stairs to the platforms and upgrades to lighting and CCTV.

Pendle Hill Station Upgrade

Improvements include four new lifts and a family accessible toilet, a new station concourse, footbridge, new stairs and platform canopies, as well as a commuter car park with around 125 additional spaces.

Pennant Hills: Transport Interchange Upgrade

Improvements included:

  • Upgrading uneven footpath areas at Railway Street, Yarrara Road and Ramsay Road
  • Reconstructing uneven road pavement in Railway Street and at the intersection of Ramsay Road and Pennicook Lane
  • Converting the existing RailCorp staff car park for commuter use, including an upgrade to comply with accessibility standards. Five car spaces have been made available for customers, including two accessible parking spaces
  • New signage for 'kiss and ride' areas on Yarrara Road and Ramsay Road.

Penrith Commuter Car Park

Improvements have been made to parking at Penrith Station to include around 430 additional commuter parking spaces.

Facilities will include parking, a lift, stairs, lighting and CCTV upgrades.

Penrith Station Upgrade

Improvements have been made to provide a better customer experience and increase capacity for future growth in the region.

Facilities include new stairs and canopies, a new station concourse, new accessible amenities and an improved interchange area.

Picton: Transport Interchange Upgrade

  • A new refuge island on Station Street and a new pedestrian footpath for the southern side of Station Street

Redfern: Access Upgrade
